What did the President know, and when did he know it ?

With the heat being turned up on Bad Dog Karl, the water must be warming for our Fearless Leader and Mr Bush must be feeling just a bit poached. I wonder if he's called Jim Sharp lately?

Remember when the fire on Plame first started to be fanned - Bush spoke with reporters.
Let's set the WayBack machine to February 11, 2004

WASHINGTON -(CNN) -- President Bush said Tuesday he welcomes a Justice Department investigation into who revealed the classified identity of a CIA operative.

"If there's a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is," Bush told reporters at an impromptu news conference during a fund-raising stop in Chicago, Illinois. "If the person has violated law, that person will be taken care of.
He added that he did not know of "anybody in my administration who leaked classified information."
Seems Bushy doesn't know anything...
But if we change our settings on the good ole WayBack machine to
June 3, 2004 we see something has changed...
Bush consults lawyer in leak probe
President says he might hire him for grand jury case

"I met with an attorney to determine whether or not I need his advice and if I deem I need his advice I’ll probably hire him," the president told reporters.
And did Bushy deem he needed the advice of an attorney and would he retain one?
Sherman, set the WayBack Machine to June 24 2004 - let's see if we can find out...
Transcript: White House Daily Briefing:

MR. McCLELLAN: All right, let's get started. We'll release this transcript, as well.

I told you I'd keep you informed at the appropriate time. The President met with Pat Fitzgerald, the U.S. Attorney in charge of the leak investigation, as well as members of his team. ...

QUESTION: This morning?

MR. McCLELLAN: This morning. He also recently retained a lawyer, Jim Sharp, who you all have reported about before. I would just say that -- what I've said previously, and what the President has said: The leaking of classified information is a very serious matter.

Bushy "deemed" he needed the advice of an attorney and so he hired one. Why would that be? Although "leaking of classified information is a very serious matter" Bush didn't know anything - so why hire Sharp. Had something changed? What did he find out? What did he know? When did he know it?

So the real question that should be flogged by our newly neuticled press corps is, as it was in the past:
"What did the President know, and when did he know it ?".

History likes to repeat itself ya know...

Back to the present...Set the WayBack to Monday... Isikoff comments on CNN (via Atrios)
ISIKOFF: But the problem that people in the White House, Rove among them, may have is how did they know that Valerie Plame, or Wilson's wife worked at the CIA? What we do know is there was a classified State Department report that said this, that was taken by Secretary of State Powell with him on the trip to Africa that President Bush was then on, and many senior White House aides were on.

That classified State Department report appears to have been -- or may well have been the source for the information that Rove and others were then dishing out to reporters. And if that's the case, there still may be -- we don't know yet, but there still may be an instance where classified information was provided to reporter
If this classified State Department report was the genesis of the illegal information dispersal then we gotta ask a few more questions.
*Who let Karl see the report?
* Was it Bushy himself?
*Is that why he deemed it necessary to retain a private attorney?
*Will they claim that Rove just found it on the plame ,,,err plane?
* Or was it someone else who simply mis-re-layed the report?
*Will they blame Powell for outing Plame on da plane?
*Is that what Novak meant when he said with a smirk:
I’d like to say a lot about the case, but because of my attorney’s advice I can’t. But I will. And there might be some surprising things. (CNN)
Or was it somewhere else and something completely different altogether?

In any case the question still remains:
"What did the President know, and when did he know it ?".

One thing for sure, Karl will never truely "recall" where and who it was who laid it out plame,,err plain - because memory lane may just lead us to Dear Leader way...

History likes to repeat itself ya know....
