If you come in 3rd... Sue - Sue - Sue.....

Ok we had an election for Mayor. We had 2 white rich Repugnics and a write-in Democratic councilwoman-surf-shop owner Donna Frye.

It appeared that Frye got more votes than either of the Repugnic's...The write-ins were ahead. And when they started to count the write -in's the 3rd place Repugnic - Ron Roberts' crew led by his guy John Howard (evil Repugnic Laywer) sued saying Frye should never have been allowed on the balot becasue "write-ins" are not allowed. 3rd place Ron lost - so the write-ins were counted.
But the only write-in's that would count were ones that the Full Name "Donna Frye" was written AND the little bubble was colored in. So the League of Women Voters went to court to get All the "Donna Frye" without the Bubble counted. They lost.

So the "offically valid" votes had finnaly been counted

And with the votes counted it looked like Repugnic Dick Murphy would get to being Mayor and continue to run the city into the ground...

But wait,,,3rd placer Ronnie Robber wasn't done... they had appealed the first court loss and then today,,,
Court Stops San Diego Mayor Certicfication

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A state appeals court on Tuesday stopped the county registrar from certifying results of San Diego's mayoral election, hours before the deadline.

California's 4th District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana ruled in a lawsuit that seeks a new runoff election between the top two finishers in the primary - incumbent Dick Murphy and San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts, both Republicans.

The court did not explain its decision and tentatively scheduled a hearing Friday.

The suit alleges that the city violated its own charter by allowing a write-in candidate - maverick Democratic councilwoman and surf-shop owner Donna Frye - to run for mayor in the Nov. 2 general election.

The lawsuit, filed by San Diego attorney John Howard, may determine the outcome of the mayor's race. In November, Murphy received 34.5 percent of the vote, Frye got 34 percent and Roberts had 31 percent. The county registrar had planned to certify the results Tuesday, six days before the mayor takes office.

And the Local San Diego view on this...
Appeals court puts mayoral election certification on hold

Something else about this heard on KLSD (Stacy Taylor Show) this morning... the 3rd place Ronnie camp is claiming that there was a conspiracy between Murphy, Frye, the City Attorney and some other folks ( ya know folks like the ones at the Olive Garden...)and they all worked in cahoots to keep Ronnie Robbers out of office..

So we wait as the Repugnics fight it out...

What you don't see...

So did ya hear that congress passed a new OmniAss spending bill on Saturday?

Yup, HR 4818 and low and behold, inside the Bill all kinds of really great stuff got tacked on...

Like the Istook Amendment in which the Appropriations Committee would have access to taxpayers' tax returns. TPM has much more on this little Freedom Swipe here

And the purchase of a Yacht for Big Bonzo was included in the OmniAss Bill.

Oh and also a neatly paper-clipped bit - the Abortion clause.

But my favorite was something that I can see on the hill over yonder...

Mt. Soledad icon is slipped in federal legislation

Congress last night joined the fight to keep the Mount Soledad cross in place by naming it a national veterans memorial.

The designation, inserted by two local congressmen in a voluminous spending bill that requires President Bush's approval, raises more questions about the fate of the symbol that has been at the center of an emotional 15-year legal battle.

Christian activists hailed the development yesterday. Civil libertarians, however, said it would not stop a plan to move the cross from city land in La Jolla to comply with a federal court injunction that has been on hold since 1991.

the best quote of the article is from atheist Philip Paulson
Jihad Jesus Republicans need to understand that the separation of church and state has kept this country from getting into religious wars," Paulson said. " ... If God was powerful, there would not be a need for the government to go in and force a religious agenda on nonbelieving citizens."

So simple really...

Brain Cells Fly Plane

Mission accomplished: a collection of rat brain cells has flown a virtual F-22 fighter jet from a Petri dish.

Maybe we can get Bushy a bowl of rat brains to help him out...

Well... I guess I should have some kind of post election election/voting post... so here it is...

It's like we are still back in the days of the Civil War...

By the way... did we get cheated in this election? (thanx to Fawnee for this link to a huge amount of info and resources)

Yes it was clear we did.

Kerry Won. Here are the Facts.:

"I know you don't want to hear it. You can't face one more hung chad. But I don't have a choice. As a journalist examining that messy sausage called American democracy, it's my job to tell you who got the most votes in the deciding states. Tuesday, in Ohio and New Mexico, it was John Kerry.

Most voters in Ohio thought they were voting for Kerry. At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning, CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. The exit polls were later combined with and therefore contaminated by the tabulated results, ultimately becoming a mirror of the apparent actual vote. Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent. Unless a third gender voted in Ohio, Kerry took the state."

Some maps to ponder...

Some better Maps and cartograms from this election...

Rude Pundit seems to have it about right - We are occupied...

"There's a certain level at which we need to think about ourselves as insurgents in an occupied country. And, as we all know, no one likes to be occupied. That doesn't mean violence. It's a mindset: you are either a collaborator or an insurgent. That's what we need to accept, at the bottom, at the end of this long goddamn stomach churning bipolar week. It's what the Democrats in Congress need to realize: to collaborate is to be a traitor to a cause. The administration wants to steamroll for the next two years. It will treat all opposition as it's about to treat Fallujah: it doesn't matter how much shit you blow up, how much collateral damage is done, as long as its goals are met. What is the goal of our insurgency? To take back our country from its occupiers. And that's a hard, long slog of a battle. When we accept that there's no quick fix, like electing a President, we accept the chore of the next couple of decades."

So what to do now...Thinking Rocks says this?
Well, the verdict is in our long national nightmare has officially entered its second term. Unfortunately, I am not surprised that the majority of the morons who make up the voting public in this country actually chose 4 more years of the moron. I am, however, saddened and sickened by it. And I'm thoroughly fed up. I've heard that people tend to get the government they deserve and today I believe it.

So I've decided to vent my frustration by throwing my hat in the ring. That's right. I'm officially announcing my intention to run for the office of President of the United States of America in 2008. My campaign slogan and my platform are exactly the same, and they consist of three simple words:

Fuck You, America."

That’s right – Fuck You, America. More than half of you assholes decided that we need another 4 years of this nightmarish administration, and you’re dragging the rest of us down the toilet with you. So Fuck You.

I know this does not apply to everyone in this country (just most of you). If you’re not one of the people this applies to, ignore it. Or better yet, e-mail it to someone it does apply to. To the rest of you, I say: Fuck You, America.

When you whine because you bought the lies and your spouses, siblings and children get drafted because our all-volunteer army cannot supply enough bodies to support GWs foreign policy, my response is: Fuck You, America.
...He keeps going too...

A Monkey's Tea party...

Now that Monkey gets to keep his cage and continue his inept rule of the American Zoo, it's time for BushCo to ratchet up the Holy Neo Theo Tea Party - where our Inglorious Leaders and the Furious Followers throw crates of our freedoms into the River Styx.

Sure we've got the "Big Three" to contend with - Same Sex Marriage - Roe v. Wade - privatized Social Security ... but there's so much more coming at us that's equally troubling - from the conservative stacking of the courts, to the Falwellian teaching of creationism in public schools, to Powell Jr's morality police controlling our media.

But let's take a look at some of the more obscure swacks they'll try to take...

First from the Daily Kos we find that opinions and arguments based on "God" will not be legally challengable

It Has Begun: Phase Two of the Theocrat Coup: "Pending in both the House and the Senate is The Constitution Restoration Act (HR.3799, S.2082), which would prohibit the courts from intervening on issues involving violations of government/religion separation by elected or appointed officials.
Theocrat leaders, Dominionists and Christian Reconstructionists have called the Constitution Restoration Act 'The most important piece of legislation in fifty years'.
Under the Constitution Restoration Act, the following proposed law will be added to Sec. 1260 of Title 28, Chapter 81 of the U.S. Code:
"Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the Supreme Court shall not have jurisdiction to review, by appeal, writ of certiorari, or otherwise, any matter to the extent that relief is sought against an element of Federal, State, or local government, or against an officer of Federal, State, or local government (whether or not acting in official personal capacity), by reason of that element's or officer's acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government."
Because the judiciary is "an element" of the federal, state and local governments, this wording, if it becomes law, may allow any judge to institute biblical punishments without being subject to review by the Supreme Court or the federal court system.

No questioning God's will god-Dammit !

BushCo also knows they need to control the thoughts of the intelligent and keep the stupid people stupid... so what to do about that?...

They already had it in the works a few months ago...

Bush To Impose Psychiatric Drug Regime - Health Supreme: "According to a recent article in the British Medical Journal, US president George Bush is to announce a major 'mental health' initiative in this coming month of July. The proposal will extend screening and psychiatric medication to kids and grown-ups all over the US, following a pilot scheme of recommended medication practice developed in Texas and already exported to several other states. "

And how about someone who will attempt to rid us of birth control ?
Dr. W. David Hager should frighten you but not surprise ya...

The appointment of anti-abortion and anti-birth control advocate Dr. W. David Hager to the FDA’s Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee apparently seems like such an oxymoron that, two years later, people still can’t believe it happened.

Last December Hager successfully kept “Plan B” emergency contraception pills from being sold over the counter, despite being in the minority of a 23-4 vote, and the testimony of another physician on the panel that the drug was “‘the safest product we have seen brought before us.’” This veto required the FDA to take the unusual step of ignoring the panel’s and its own staff’s recommendations. They instead cited Hager’s opposition -- what former FDA commissioner Donald Kennedy calls a “‘political fig leaf’” -- that the drug hadn’t been tested widely enough on adolescents.

And with all of this we still need to remember to watch what we say... especially on the "Internets"... as Annie tells us ...

A couple of weeks ago, following the last presidential debate, I said some rather inflammatory things about George W. Bush in a public post in my LJ, done in a satirical style. We laughed, we ranted, we all said some things. I thought it was a fairly harmless (and rather obvious) attempt at humor in the face of annoyance, and while a couple of people were offended, as is typical behavior from me, I saw something shiny and forgot about it, thinking that the whole thing was over and done and nothing else would come of what I said.

I was wrong.

At 9:45 last night, the Secret Service showed up on my mother's front door to talk to me about what I said about the President - keep reading
There is so much more coming...crates and crates of freedoms to be destroyed...

It's Dark in Here

Picking up the pieces in the dark is... as the (gulp) President once said is "Harrd Worrk"...

So, what happened?
Simple really...

BushCo mobilized the Terror-Frightened Gay-Hating God-Fearing folk to get out and Vote.

It was plain and simple...

The New York Times' Garry Wills puts it as follows in The Day the Enlightenment Went Out:

"This election confirms the brilliance of Karl Rove as a political strategist. He calculated that the religious conservatives, if they could be turned out, would be the deciding factor. The success of the plan was registered not only in the presidential results but also in all 11 of the state votes to ban same-sex marriage. Mr. Rove understands what surveys have shown, that many more Americans believe in the Virgin Birth than in Darwin's theory of evolution.
This might be called Bryan's revenge for the Scopes trial of 1925, in which William Jennings Bryan's fundamentalist assault on the concept of evolution was discredited. Disillusionment with that decision led many evangelicals to withdraw from direct engagement in politics. But they came roaring back into the arena out of anger at other court decisions - on prayer in school, abortion, protection of the flag and, now, gay marriage. Mr. Rove felt that the appeal to this large bloc was worth getting President Bush to endorse a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage (though he had opposed it earlier)."
Now Bush says he has earned "political capital"
"I earned capital ... political capital," ... "and now I intend to spend it."
It's clear this is "God Given" capital as it comes from the 4 million or so Terror-Frightened Gay-Hating God-Fearing voters that BushCo turned out at the polls to swing the swing states - It's these folks, who now, sure as shit, are gonna get paid back for their efforts.

That's bad news for us - those trying to live in a reality based a healing of the country is gonna be more like them telling us to heal.

Can anyone say "New Fascist Theocracy"...

Carpe Diem - The Sun is Rising

If liberty and equality, as is thought by some are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost.

We Share in Government and Choose Our Future Today...

It is time to reach for the next dream. It is time to look to the next horizon. For America, the hope is there. The sun is rising. Our best days are still to come.

Pot Kettle Black - A small History Lesson

After all the things I've read about Karl Rove, after seeing the film "Bush's Brain" and after thinking about the Pot Kettle Black tactic that BushCo is using in the Cam-pain I couldn't help but think of another time in history. A time when manipulating the message was of highest priority , a time when all encompassing power was the great end.

This is not a comparison but rather a look to the past at a propagandist - Goebbels - one who some might say wrote the modern book of truly evil tricks. When we look at Karl Rove we don't see the ultimate evil of this other propagandist but we do see the methods, the theory and the tactics - and this deserves a look.

Before I send you on this journey I want to reference Godwin's Law

Godwin's Law (also Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies) is an adage in Internet culture that was originated by Mike Godwin in 1990. The law states that:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
I present this right up-front because the criticism I'm sure will develop regarding what is to follow -if this post is even read.

The Pot Kettle Black approach is "accusing your opponent for doing exactly what you yourself are doing".

Bush does this all the time. For Example, just today...err everyday Bush said:
Senator Kerry can run from his record, but he cannot hide

Last time I looked it was Bush who can't hide from his record.

More on the Pot Kettle Black Bush here.

BushCo is adept at claiming that Kerry is blaming the troops for the problems when it's BushCo that denigrates the troops.
"No matter how you try to blame it on the president, the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough - didn't they search carefully enough?''
Rudy Guiliani

And now to the past...
Goebbels on Churchill (1941) :
"This article is dated 12 January 1941. Goebbels accuses Churchill of using the 'big lie' technique. In satirical style, he accuses the British of using the method of which Goebbels himself was master."

Read the article - remember history...
Think about the tactics that BushCo has used in this Cam-Pain...
Read or re-read the first 3 chapters of 1984
Think about the perpetual war on terror...
Think about the loss of freedom in the name of security...
Think about the dumbing down of the American intellect...

then sit and think about the future.

Tomorrow We Choose our Future.

Mad Monkey - Bad Monkey - Grr....

Today I woke up to Bush Saying

"I don't think America is divided"
Or some such drivel...

Is it a lack of a grounding in reality or maybe BushCo just sees more than half of America as his enemies.

And then I went to Blogtics and found this little Video of our Monkey in Chief and his true feeling towards America.

Hey Monkey, Please refer yourself to Dick Cheney's comments on the Senate floor on June 22nd 2004.

Right Back at Ya Monkey...
